The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is a new European Union regulation designed to reduce packaging waste, improve recyclability, and support the transition towards a more circular economy. PPWR becomes applicable from 12 August 2026 and introduces a series of new requirements for packaging placed on the EU market. Some obligations apply from this date, while other requirements will be introduced progressively through a phased implementation timetable.

What is PPWR?

The regulation applies to packaging placed on the EU market and impacts a wide range of economic operators, including manufacturers, importers, distributors, and brand owners.
Over time, PPWR will introduce requirements relating to packaging sustainability, recyclability, documentation, material composition, and supply chain transparency. Many of these obligations will be implemented in phases over the coming years.
How Is Unigloves Preparing for PPWR?
To support PPWR compliance, Unigloves is:
- Reviewing packaging specifications across our product portfolio.
- Working closely with suppliers to collect, verify, and maintain packaging data.

Building the Foundations for Compliance
Preparation for PPWR requires detailed information regarding packaging composition, material content, recyclability, and supply chain transparency.
Unigloves has already commenced structured engagement with packaging suppliers and manufacturing partners to collect and validate the information required to support future compliance obligations and customer enquiries. This work forms part of a wider programme focused on enhancing supply chain visibility and ensuring the availability of accurate packaging information as regulatory requirements continue to develop.
PPWR Readiness and Documentation Availability
The PPWR requirements primarily apply to packaging and products newly placed on the EU market from the relevant applicable dates. Products and packaging that have already been legally placed on the market before the applicable implementation date may continue to be made available through existing supply chains, subject to applicable legal requirements, regulatory guidance, and any relevant transitional provisions.
As with many businesses across Europe, collecting PPWR-related information requires close collaboration throughout the supply chain. While Unigloves has been proactively working with suppliers to gather the necessary data, some suppliers remain in the process of compiling, reviewing, and validating the required information.
The availability of certain information may therefore depend on data being provided and verified by upstream packaging suppliers and material manufacturers. As a result, there may be occasions where some documentation is not immediately available.
Our teams and supply chain partners are working diligently to support compliance and documentation readiness, and we appreciate our customers' understanding during this transition period.
Unigloves will provide relevant information as it becomes available and validated, while maintaining open communication with customers throughout the implementation process.
